Happy Holidays 2019

It seems like we have never been the best at updating this blog.  Maybe this will be a New Years Resolution? At least we have a bit of an excuse this year.

I suppose Christmas in Saudi Arabia can be a bit anti-climatic.  You don’t really see decorations anywhere, and your Facebook feed is loaded with family get-togethers and exciting trips.  Luckily, our Christmas break has been anything but dull.

New Addition

We would like to officially introduce all of you to our new addition.  Meet Alfie!

Alfred Gish Nielsen was born at 12:17 pm on Christmas Eve.  Everyone is doing well.  He has a bit of jaundice but other than that everything is fine!  We are all adjusting to having 2 kids, Simon included. It is both a blessing and a curse that he was born over the holiday break.  It gives us time as just a family to be together,  but we are also all here most of the day living on top of each other (our place is getting rather small)

I have taken it upon myself to keep Simon occupied and let Lindsey be with the baby. (maybe a boys’ road trip to Bahrain is in order)

I am sure that we will write this up in a separate post, but having a baby in a foreign country wasn’t all that bad.  I was able to be in the room for the delivery (an exception to the rule), and everything with the delivery was perfectly fine!  We had a few problems with the hospital after the delivery (they kept feeding him formula despite our objections) but overalll pretty good.

The best part is that the full cost of having a baby was $12. (and that is only because of the blood work needed for the jaundice)

Not too shabby!

Now comes the bureaucratic headache of getting a birth certificate and passport for this little guy.

Hopefully we will write more in the new year!
