Busy Busy Busy
Hello again to the handful of readers out there. I have time for just a quick update. Things have been quite busy here in Saudi. (especially at work) We had our IB Evaluation visit and lesson planning and grading take up a lot of our time. I realize for non teachers that this doesn’t mean much of anything!
We are doing a little experimentation with the design of the website. Hopefully, this will mean a bit more of a professional look to it. We moved away from the free WordPress theme and got Divi from Elegant Themes.
Although it is hard to tell by my lack of technological know-how, eventually this will make things look nicer on the blog.
Some things that are in the works are a static homepage and a
Free Money with Travel Hacking
Travel Hacking can be defined as using credit cards to gain rewards. In our post about our travel to Oman, I talked a little bit about the travel hacking that we did. Most of these rewards are available with the sign-up bonuses. (Usually the sign-up bonus is when you spend certain amount of money within 3 or so months.
While living here in Saudi Arabia, we plan to travel back to the US every summer to spend time with family. While the school provides us money for flights, we usually have to pay up front and then get some kind of reimbursement. What a perfect way to meet the minimum spend!
Some people in the travel hacking community may sign up for 2 or 3 credit cards every year. Because of where we live, I think that one new card a year will suffice.
The newest member to our credit card family is the Barclaycard Arrival Plus Mastercard. This gave us 40,000 points after spending $4000 in the first 3 months. Since our flights back home this summer cost $5000, the minimum spend was met with just one purchase.
40,000 points equates to $400. Along with the 2points/$1 spent, our flights home netted us $500 in free money. Not bad for the five minutes it took to open the card!
Next couple of weeks
Spring break can not come soon enough! This will happen at the end of March. We are just going to Bahrain for a few days. (nothing extravagant planned)
In the meantime, school will continue. Lindsey is going to Dubai for a training conference from 8-10 March, so it is a guys-only weekend!
Maybe we will spend more time riding the luggage cart at the hotel!
